Hyperclick by Mucoder (Windows, Mac & Linux)

Hyperclick is an LFO-driven MIDI arpeggiator, gate effect and step sequencer, the output of which can then drive other MIDI instruments.

The main use for hypercyclic is to generate midi that can be recorded and/or sent to other plugins, and it also features a simple built-in synth for testing purposes. Apr vet vet ray user manual.

A unique feature is the possibility to modulate the sequencer step size itself, which is useful for creating glitchy stuttering effects.

It’s simple enough for non-professionals to use, however, if you don’t want to spend too much time learning all the ins and outs, you can also use the various different presets also included with the plugin.

B-Step Sequencer (Windows, Mac & Linux)

B-Step Sequencer is a step sequencer plugin and standalone application for creating melodic loops, chord progressions, arpeggios, drum grooves, and basslines.

It comes with an array of features like chord programming, sequencer ratcheting, shuffle, drag-n-drop, copy, MIDI learn, and much, a couple different presets to get you started with, and more.

One of its features that I like is that it offers both monophonic and polyphonic playback modes, as well as reverse playback.

SequencAir by Full Bucket Music (Windows, Mac)

SequencAir is a free software step sequencer that offers 16 chainable banks with 16 sequencer steps per bank, individual control for Note, Octave, Velocity, Gate, Skip, Mute, as well as Sync-to-host and Swing functions.

In addition to this, SequencAir offers an additional built-in monophonic synthesizer, and all of this in a fairly simple-to-use interface, although the huge number of knobs can seem a little daunting to most beginners.

Inertia is based on a sequencer that runs in precise sync with the host transport, triggering up to 32 envelope generators one after another.

It features loads of envelope types, as well as variabletiming and shape parameters.

This means that Inertia is capable of creating a plethora oflevel modulation effects; from rhythmic tremolo, pumping and gating to reallyintricate riffs, chopping and stuttering.

When looking at the interface you’ll see that it displays audiowaveforms and aligns its sequencer graphics with it.

And last, but not least, Thesys.

Thesys is an impressive 32-step sequencer which comes with all the essential features.

The sequences can simply be painted, but with the randomgenerator and the mutate-function you can easily generate patterns on the fly,or record the pitch straight from your MIDI keyboard.

It comes with a built-in synthesizer which saves you a lotof time and allows you to generate new ideas right from the start.

Up to 16 full patterns can be created within a singleproject. They can be sequenced within the Pattern Sequencer or triggered viathe Keyboard.

This is my top choice for all the sequencers I just listedsimply because of how powerful and versatile it is.

Audio Vitamins have today announced that they give up the development of its creative random powered MIDI step sequencer plugin Stochas. Instead of new updates, the developer decided to releases the plugin (initial $50) as an open-source project and thus it becomes a free plugin for PC & Mac. It’s sad to hear that they stop it but also good that they do not let the plugin die. Better an open-source project with big support by the community than a complete disappearance.

Stochas is a MIDI step sequencer plugin that features a big amount of randomization goodies that makes every sequences more lively and exciting. Almost everything can be randomized and not only the whole piece but also only in a certain area of the sequence. For example, you can random specific notes in a sequence, random the note start times, velocity, length, and more.

Stochas allows you to create up to four layers /up to eight patterns with different time signatures, playback speed, and number of steps per layer. Here is the official statement of Audio Vitamins:
